Laboratory of Mass

Laboratory of mass is one of the oldest laboratories of the KMA, due to the fact that the mass is one of the basic physical size and measurements in the field of mass are needed in each sector or industry. The primary activities of the mass laboratory are to ensure international level of traceability of measurements for physical mass unites and the transmission of mass unit in the lowest level, to the last users.

The Primary activities of mass Laboratories are:

Maintaining and keeping the mass unit (Kilogram) in the Republic of Kosovo,

Ensure international level of measurements traceability for physical mass unites (kilogram) and the transmission of mass unit in the lowest level, to the last users.

Participation at the international and regional inter-laboratory comparisons for the declaration of CMCs in E2 class level, which remains one of most strategic objectives for mass laboratory.

Activity:

  • Calibration of standard weights in margins 1 mg – 20 kg class E2
  • Calibration of standard weights in margins 2 mg – 20 kg class F1
  • Calibration of non-automatic instruments NAWI weighing to the margins 1000 kg, in accordance with Guide: EURAMET – cg / 18 – v4 – 2012

The Laboratory’s Measurement & calibration capabilities:

Calibration and measurement capabilities of weights class E2, achieved in the bilateral inter- comparisons to be published in the KCDB of the BIPM

The National mass standard of 1kg in Kosovo is part of the set 1 mg – 10 kg class E1 of the stainless steel material, traceable to the International System of Units, through the calibration made at the General Directorate of Metrology in Albania, the national standard is preserved and maintained at the laboratory of Mass in KMA, and is used as primary standards to provide traceability of measuring results at national level, through calibration that laboratory carried out for the needs to provide measurement accuracy credibility at lower levels and at the national system of measurement and industry.

The working etalons of class E2 provides the traceability for accredited laboratories and for these laboratories that use analytical weighting scales or mass comparators of primary care, health, food, veterinary, environment, industry, etc.

Etalons of class E2 are traceable to primary etalon of class E1 through mass calibration laboratory, in accordance with the results obtained in inter-laboratory comparisons.

Equipment:

The Mass Laboratory in its disposal has all needed equipment to provide traceability of  weights in the range of:
1 mg – 10 kg class E2, 1 mg – 50 kg class E2, 1 mg – 20 kg class F1 and anaclitic weighting scales up to 600 kg.
